Dr. Peter Faustino & "Bully"

On tonight's edition of NBC's Nightly News with Brian Williams, Dr. Peter Faustino, President of NYASP, was interviewed by Kate Snow as a part of a segment on the film "Bully".  The clip can be seen at the following link:        http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/46898906/#46898906

"Bully" is a documentary that offers an intimate, unflinching look at how bullying has impacted the lives of five children and their families.  Filmed over the course of the 2009/2010 school year, "Bully" opens a window into the pained and often endangered lives of bullied kids, revealing a problem that transcends geographic, racial, ethnic, and economic borders.  It documents the responses of administrators' and teachers' responses to aggressive behaviors that defy "kids will be kids" cliches, and it captures a growing movement to change how bullying is handled in schools, in communities, and in society as a whole.  "Bully" will be playing in select theaters in New York between March 30th and April 6th.  More information about the film can be found at http://thebullyproject.com

Externship Opportunity for Fall - contact Dr. L. ASAP

Externship at Adolescent and Family Therapy Program (AFT) within the Bergen County Department of Human Services.

The position is an “assessment rich” opportunity.  We have a diversity of adolescent cases that have a multitude of presenting problems.  The externs this year generally carried two assessment cases throughout the year, getting a new case whenever they finished one.  Their evaluations are important to treatment planning and medication management.  In one case the assessment of the client helped him qualify for benefits with DDD.  Externs may have the potential to do some psychotherapy and other therapeutic activities.

Because AFT is an outpatient psychiatric program, we do need someone who is trained on the Rorschach and other projectives.

Please have anyone interested call me ASAP at (201) 336-7363.  I am in the office from 10-3 on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Friday from 9-5.  I will return any message left on the answering machine.  You can also send an email to JLoveland@co.bergen.nj.us.

I hope to hear from you or from one of your students.

Jon Loveland, Ph.D.

Young Child Expo 2012

We are excited to announce the 9th Annual Young Child Expo and Conference at the Hotel Pennsylvania, sponsored by Fordham University on April 18th, 19th, and 20th! Every year we invite students to volunteer to assist with the conference, and it is NOT too late to volunteer!

In exchange for volunteering, students will have the opportunity to attend some of the sessions for free. Volunteer duties primarily include greeting conference attendees, checking name badges, collecting attendee surveys, at each session. The volunteer schedule is flexible and you can volunteer for as many days or part days as you like. For each half-day you volunteer, you can attend a half-day for free!!! It is advisable to request the sessions you would like to volunteer to work (you will get to hear the session that you work) as early as possible!! While we can not guarantee that you will be able to attend all of the sessions you would like, we will do our best to honor all requests! This is an amazing professional development and networking opportunity and a chance to attend a great conference for free!

If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please email sceccevents@fordham.edu

Welcome!

Welcome to Fordham University's School Psychology Blog! As students and future professionals, we believe that it is crucial that we stay connected, united, and learn from each other in order to be the best practitioners possible! In trying to develop ways in which to better disperse information to members of the program, SASP has decided to create this blog. Use this site as your "one stop shop" for updates pertaining to events, resources pertaining to the field of school psychology, tips for surviving grad school, and other useful information. We plan to invite both students and professors to contribute in the weeks to come, so let us know if you are interested in participating!
