Autism Spectrum Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Adriana DiMartino, MD
Many children with ASDs present with inattention and hyperactivity that is similar, though not always, to those same symptoms as observed in children with ADHD. We will provide an overview on similarities and differences between hyperactivity and impulsivity in ADHD versus ASDs both at the clinical and biological levels, and discuss treatment approaches.
Many individuals with ASDs want to date and form intimate relationships but lack the skills to do so. We will offer parents specific strategies for teaching social thinking; coaching young adults and adults in specific social skills needed to navigate this particularly mysterious social arena; and helping them look in the right places for romantic relationships.
