TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS IN PSYCHOLOGY
As a component of the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC), Developmental Support Services (DSS) is a program working with children (ages 5+) diagnosed with significant developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders. Children are referred to this program due to behavioral concerns including behavior management at home, issues of anxiety and panic disorders, as well as difficulties with social skills. The program offers individual, group and family psychotherapy.
DSS uses multiple forms of therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (including Systematic Desensitization, Progressive Muscle Relaxation), treatment of anxiety and panic disorders, Problem-Solving Approach, Behavior Modification, and aspects of Applied Behavioral Analysis. Therapy is conducted with children and adolescents in an individual or group setting and offers family therapy and parent training as collateral sessions. DSS periodically provides psychological testing for diagnostic clarification and for the purposes of obtaining services for the children. The option of applying for a LEND fellowship, which is a stipend program including additional training and research in the field of developmental disabilities, is available to doctoral-level students. Trainees may also participate in weekly and monthly multidisciplinary lectures by Einstein Faculty and other members of a multidisciplinary team.
Individual supervision is provided by Dr. Bijan Rabenou, a NYS licensed psychologist who specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Rabenou has been in the field for almost 30 years with vast experience in the field of developmental disabilities with all ages. He has supervised students at both the Master’s and Ph.D. levels.
Eligibility: This training opportunity is available to students pursuing master’s or
